BBC: Teens

The Summer Bible Club 4 Jr Highers!

For years, I have told kids and parents that when a child reaches around 12 1/2 years old, I suddenly go from being "the cool teacher" to being "the weird teacher."  I just don't connect very well to 12 1/2 to 15 year olds.  Yet at the same time, I know this age group really needs a summer Bible club just for them.  So I have been praying for someone to come along to reach this age group for Jesus.

About a month ago, I was sharing this dream to Rachel when she commented, "My husband Matt would be perfect for this!"  She immediately described my dream to Matt, who is a jr high gym teacher.  Within two weeks, Matt and Rachel decided that if they could find babysitters for their youngest two kids, they would run BBC: Teens!

Then I shared this dream and the babysitting need to my Ladies Bible Study Group.  Before we could even pray about this, Joyce said, "I will babysit the kids!"

So BBC: Teen will begin on Thursday, June 18 at 9:30 am.  It will run at the same time as BBC: Newmanstown.  Both the elementary and teens will spend the first 1/2 hour together as they sign in, complete a craft and play various "playground" games (ie. gaga ball, four square, etc.).  Then the two groups will split for Bible Times and Group Games.

Today, I am working on all the administrative stuff that goes into Backyard Bible Club.  I needed a break, so I began to flip through photos of BBC 2021.  What memories these pictures brought back!  I so love teaching kids about Jesus.  I love to see the kids run to club each day.  I love to see their smiling faces as they win a round of gaga ball or their surprised faces as they get hit with a cup of water.

Craft Time - We made key chains, puppets, coin purses/bags (I was told BOYS don't uses purses!), I Spy bottles, game, water bottle cozies and bracelets.

Club Store - It is amazing to see how many kids save their bible bucks until the very last day of club!

Game Time - Pool Noodles, Water, Hula Hoops, Parachute. . . So much fun!

Lego Bag is a favorite with the younger kids!

Review Time - You never know what kinds of review games Becky B will come up with next.  Last year, a few selected ones got very wet!

Bible Time - We learned a lot about Moses, the Israelites and God last summer.

Who new that PVC pipes could be so much fun! From simple shapes to a dog house, the kids continued to amaze me with their creativity.

Snack Time - What can be more enjoyable the eating your snack in the gaga pit!

I am looking forward to making new memories with the kids this coming summer.

Week 7: Complaining

How is it that BBC 2020 is already over?!?  It was an amazing year with record number of kids attending and only one rainy day!  This year we had 20 BBC Bible Verse Champs!  These kids could quote all 7 of our Bible Verses at one time!

This week, the kids made a quail blow toy.  It was so much fun seeing the N Annville kids try to make their quails fly.  You have to make sure the straw is not pushed all the way back and then blow quick and hard.  Some of the kids got the technique and others need to work at it.

Since I often get the question, "What happens when we die?" I decided to answer it during the Gospel Time.  The S Annville kids had a lot of good questions.  I love when kids asked the right questions.  Anyway, I used two sets of twins, Jesus, magnets and 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 to answer this important question.

Then it was time to introduce Philippians 2:14-15 as our Bible Verse of the week.  I had the kids think of an example of someone complaining.  Then I choose one to come up and give the complain.  After hearing the complaint, the kids yelled, "STOP, say the verse."  Then they all quoted Philippians 2:14-15.  Finally the person who was complaining had to think of something about the situation that they could be thankful for.  They did an outstanding job.  Here are some of the complains and gratitudes they came up with.

Complaint: "I don't want to clean my room!"  Gratitude: "I am glad I have my own room."
Complaint: "I don't want to ride that horse!"  Gratitude: "I am thankful I own not one but two horses."
Complaint: "I don't like peas!"  Gratitude: "I am thankful I have food to eat."

This activity lead right into our Bible Story (Exodus 15-17).  Every time they heard the Israelites complaining, I made them go through (Stop!  Say the Verse.  Be Thankful).  We learned that the Israelites really had a complaining problem.  Yet God continued to meet their needs.  He truly is an amazing, patient, merciful, faithful God.  So because God meets our needs, we need to be thankful and not complain.
After snacks, it was game time!  For the final week, we played Tenzie.  They also had a chance to go to the club store for the last time to exchange their hard earned Bible Bucks into some candy or toys.
